SAP Integration | Application Connectivity | Transport Management: Seamless Solutions

Ensure SAP Integration | Application Connectivity | Transport Management with secure API access, seamless transport requests, and smooth deployments.

SAP Transport Requests (TRs) play a crucial role in migrating custom developments, configurations, and modifications across different SAP environments. In this blog, we will guide you through the process of creating a Transport of Copies, downloading the cofiles and datafiles using CG3Y, and uploading them using CG3Z. As part of SAP Integration | Application Connectivity | Transport Management, note this is very useful for ISVs who want to keep the development in their own environment and move the latest file upload to the Customers in one go.

  1. Go to SE01 (Transport Organizer)
  2. Click on Create (F6) and select Transport of Copies.
  3. Assign a description and choose the appropriate package or leave it as local.
  4. Add the objects or TRs that need to be copied.
  5. Save the Transport Request and note down the request number.

SAP Integration | Application Connectivity | Transport Management: Tips on sending your changes to the new SAP instance

  • Keep the new change configurable, ensuring that if something breaks, you can easily enable or disable the functionality with a simple on/off switch.
  • Test in a sandbox environment first before moving changes to production to avoid unexpected issues.
  • Ensure dependencies are transported together, including necessary customizing and master data.
  • Document all changes with proper version control to track modifications.
  • Monitor system logs and validate successful transport imports after implementation.
  • After a few deployments merge the transport requests together so there is not a huge list to take care of

Also ensure that you are able to create a package instead of individual TRs to be imported if the solution has a base pack ready to be used.

By following these best practices for SAP Transport Requests, ISVs and businesses can ensure a smooth and efficient migration of developments across SAP environments. Keeping changes configurable, testing thoroughly, managing dependencies, and maintaining proper version control are key to minimizing risks and ensuring seamless deployments. Additionally, consolidating transport requests and utilizing packages for base solutions can streamline the process and enhance maintainability. With these strategies in place, organizations can efficiently deliver updates to customers while maintaining stability and control over their SAP landscapes.
